The start of cinematic TikToks.

Follow my thought process of starting on cinematic TikToks. It's a steep learning curve.

I came back from my skiing holiday. I wanted to preproduce TikToks but did not make it. Therefore I had one week off from TikTok. Getting started again on Monday is hard and I was not really happy with my TikToks looking back. I would like to produce higher quality but less and somehow fell down the shame mountain a little bit. So I have to gain confidence again to post everything on TikTok. Higher quality would mean more fun. But more work and I don’t know if I can persist this then for one video each week.

So what are the things I want to focus on?

  1. The snail mail club would be awesome. Selling photos would really be cool and suite my lifestyle.
  2. LifeUpdate App. Launching it in the stores would mean we get confirmation that it is a flop or not.
  3. Creating TikToks. Consumes a lot of brain power and effort but without nothing is worth doing it. Because no one will ever notice.
  4. Writing these blog articles. Feels useless because no one reads them, but helps my mental health.
  5. Writing postcards to brands seems expensive and I don’t know if anyone will ever reply.

Now I will get back to cutting. See you!

The Story of this week

I want to create more beautiful TikToks again so I am thinking of a little script about the topic: “Why are so many people running marathons in their twenties”? This would be something I would film if I have time and the feeling I need to create something creative. Furthermore I will shoot parts of my day now in cinematic shots. This lets me learn more about light, davincis color grading and cutting (to music & sound effects). Maybe I need an https://artlist.io/subscription soonish, so I can use premium sound effects & music. But for now I will try with https://pixabay.com/. Here are some examples how my TikToks could look like:

And this is my shotlist of Wednesday:

  • Dark room: sit on stool, turn on screen. Only lit by screen.
  • klick on mouse > swipe away > klick on davinci resolve > swipe away > scroll through timeline > swipe away
  • put on glasses > see reflection in glasses

I now really caught fire for cinematic TikToks. It kinda feels like an evolution of taking photos and makes me want to take my camera more with me with in return will result in more photos again. Today is Wednesday and I actually recorded myself doing yoga. Never thought I would do that! But until now I did not write a single line of code. And to be honest, I miss it. So I need to find a better balance between TikToks and coding.

Snail Mail Club

I have published one of my videos with the snail Mail and one person commented “me” to send a link to them. So I created a stripe link for people to sign up for a subscription: https://buy.stripe.com/dRm5kw8YDbKh0107C6bjW00

I am actually impressed how easy it is to accept money on the internet these days. I can definitely recommend stripe! I let the one person know where she can sign up and also did a coupon code FIRST100 to increase the incentive. But I am pretty sure no one will sign up.

TikToks

I found a way how to produce fast TikToks and some with which I have fun. You can sort them in three categories. These now just have to produce views. Easier said than done.

  1. Film myself while I work and record my keyboard with a mic for ASMR > take my latest blog article throw it into gemini, get a script > get a story telling voice from https://elevenlabs.io/ > stitch it together. This takes me approximately 30min
  2. Film whatever I do in the day with my iPhone. At the end record a talking head video with my camera and mic and explain what I did. Cut the iPhone clips to it.
  3. Get out there, be creative, film cinematic stuff, get a song from https://artlist.io/, learn color grading and story telling via Davinci Resolve and create something that makes fun.

On saturday

I then cut round about 7 Tik Toks. Two of them cinematic. I learn a lot of new stuff with this about film making. I furthermore take my camera out on a run and film two more videos. This somehow makes really fun. I think I will safe myself the time on not working talking head videos (so number 2) and only do number 1 and 3. These are also the videos I am actually proud of. 1 gives this blog articles additional validity and 3 just makes fun. On Sunday today I am on a day trip to Innsbruck with my girlfriend and our foldable bikes and I have so much fun taking my camera out and filming stuff. Next week I hope to get more into coding again when cancelling one of the TikTok’s above. If I then do not post every day, that is also totally fine.

See you next week! ✌🏽
